Home Alone is a 1990 American Christmas family comedy movie written and produced by John Hughes. Macaulay Culkin stars as Kevin McCallister, a kid who is mistakenly abandoned by his family when they go to Paris for Christmas vacation. Kevin initially relishes being home alone, but soon has to contend with two burglars, played by Daniel Stern and Joe Pesci. The film also features Catherine O’Hara and John Heard as Kevin’s parents.
The film was shot in Winnetka, Illinois; O’Hare International Airport in Chicago; Evanston, Illinois; and Uxbridge, Ontario. It became the highest-grossing Christmas movie of all time upon release and was critically acclaimed for its screenplay. The McCallister family was awarded a plaque by the city to commemorate their role in the film at a celebration in Chicago, Illinois on November 14, 2007.
